Ah HA!

I knew I would be a lazy blogger.  I look at peoples blogs, and become all addicted, and then immediately self doubt creeps into play.
I mean, I can't blog as awesomely as all of these other ones out there. For realz, but hey. Rome wasn't built in a day, and other such cliche comments.

So today I brought the following...
- $7 - A piece of art that I intend to use to frame something for the baby sisters room
- $1 - A lovely wicker basket (my husband loves my habit of bringing home useless bits like this, seriously)
- $7 - A puffer vest for the big chap. Down filled and black, perfect for mucking around with the small chap at the park.

- $6 - A pair of canvas and leather sandals.  Yes, sandals, in winter.  It was -2 degrees in Wellington yesterday, so I figured, why not?

- $1 - A DaKine backpack for the small chap.  I can't bring myself to purchase him one of those over branded cartoon ones made by hands tinier than his no doubt.

This is a normal day of op-shopping for me, although I try to keep myself within $10, so I have failed miserably here.

PS, my new $8 prescription lenses from Clearly Contacts.  LOVE!!

There you go though. My fourth post!  Who ever would have thought!

This is me

For the sake of maintaining some kind blog stamina I will post about my family. Why not. I'm new to this posting, so will no doubt break every rule in the book, but I will hopefully learn.

The photo above is from our deck. There was a fire somewhere in Wellington, and it caused some pretty strange light in the sky.

The image below is my showroom in town. Its pretty low key, I design kitchens and bathrooms and interior re-jigging. I enjoy what I do, but it makes for a pretty cramped week balancing wee 'un's with trying to run a successful business.  Guilt plays a big part of most of my days.

This image is from a day in the middle of winter when we decided to brave the bracing Wellington Southerly and walk along the Pencarrow Heads. It was worth it if only to get one of the only photo's of our small family all together.

Today I...

Took some grainy as photos of our room with some fresh sheets on the bed. Excuse the quality of the photos, and other such apologies, it is merely another reason I REQUIRE an iphone.  *sighs*

Brought the biggest calculator of all time from the op shop for $1, along with about a million more useful items for the small one in my tummy.
Also a small but beautifully formed vase for the collection.
Sewed, cleaned, played, worked.
Tired now though, the end of the day with a 7.5 month heavy tummy seems like a time for complaints. Poor husband

Reasons I hate my camera

Because no matter how much I stand more still than I have ever stood before, I still end up with grainy, blurry, dark images that need to be sent through about 50 filters to look anything like reasonable.  And I am just not that awesome at Photoshop (ie/ total amateur.)

Ah well whatever. This mirror was from the Wellington tip shop, $8. It's not everyones cup of tea, but I love it.

Off to enjoy the howling gales of a Wellington storm.

Baby room

This is a run through of projects I have done recently to finish off the mess that was the spare room...

I brought a frame from our local recycle center for $2 the other day, it was a little rickety so I plastered it in wood glue and clamped it to fix it in place.

It needed something inside, so I scrawled up a quick pencil drawing while watching some heavy metal cartoon that my husband was forcing me to watch.  I'll upload an image of it when I can find a spot on our walls big enough to house it.

I have also put together a babies room as I am 7.5 months pregnant at the moment with #2, and instead of her sleeping in the drum room as #1 had to, we have enough space in this house to room them both separately.

I brought a cot for $5 from the recycle center and painted it white (it was a rimu wooden frame cot.) A friend gave me a chair which I covered over with some material I had on hand. From my favourite op shop in Petone I found an old school cabinet which was painted midnight blue.
It has a fair bit of borer (the guy in the op shop said that he thought it had been used as a dart board, ha) so I doused it and left it to the elements for a while and then sanded it roughly back (being of the view that any job that takes longer then 60 minutes is in the too hard basket.)

The small drawers in the corner were $10 from another local op favourite in Lower Hutt, it is merely pine, so I took the handles off and painted it a Periglacial Blue that is around ten years old, but has long been a favourite colour of mine.

The glass vases on top of this set of drawers were 50c from the recycle center in Wellington.
The pictures to the right were $1 for a set of three from a ridiculously cheap ezibuy sale (online shop.) I popped some colour samples in them to give the wall some interest.

The map on the wall in the frame I found for $2 at another op shop was an OLD world map I found in a junk shop in York (back when I was free of small ones to look after.) I figure it cant hurt to learn a little about Our World from day one?

The rimu bureau in the corner was a $5 score from the recycle center in Wellington.  The lovely chap had to remove all the speakers from my miniature car to fit it in the boot. It was a tiny bit feral, but I sanded it back and sealed it with a bee's wax and olive oil homemade mix that I use on all my furniture.
I LOVE it. Super useful, big enough to hold all the unborn ones clothing and nappy collection, and then some.

So, that is the baby room as it is today. Probably not of huge interest to anyone, but it took a bit of work clearing it from junk room to baby room. Why didn't I take any before/after images to impress everyone. Ah well, such is life.

I'm off to source some lunch from somewhere, hoorah!

The time to shop

Its a guilt thing, but I set aside a wee time slot every day to pop in to an op shop and peruse for a time. Not every day is a bargain found, and sometimes desperation calls for some random purchase that arrives home, only to find its way back into a clothing bin.

The main thing is that the magpie eyes get some exercise each day.

I thought it might be fun to document the daily purchase-drag home-amalgamate into the home somehow cycle.  I think I might try rope my also obsessed little sister into the fun, but she shares a dislike of photography/uploading with me. So time will tell how this exploit goes, but as we seem to have so much of it to spare, lets give it a go.

I'll upload today's purchases as soon as I can be bothered to get a decent image of them...

Hooray
